If you are interested in adopting an older child from foster care through Children’s Home Society, you must complete a state mandated pre-service training. Children’s Home Society offers Educating Strong Families: Foster Care Adoption Core Training several times a year. The Winter 2019 training course consists of three Saturday sessions on January 12, 19, and 26. Each class will be held from 9-3 at our Richmond office. Applicants must attend each of the three sessions and training must be completed before families can request a home study. Pre-service training covers topics such as trauma, attachment, brain development, parenting skills, and how to navigate the foster system. The classes will be taught by CHS social workers and other speakers. The cost of the training is $150.00 per person and registration is required.
